Today we had a girls’ day at the mall–my mom braved the Saturday afternoon crowds to drag me and the girls out of the house. Ben’s truck is in the shop and he’s had my car all week, so we’ve been a bit cooped up. Although I hate shopping, and I actually don’t care for crowds much either, I do enjoy taking stuff back. I returned some jeans that I bought way back in September that Lord knows will never fit me again, and took back Ben’s Christmas present that also didn’t fit him. Fat family? Yes, yes, we are.

All the returns to my credit card made me happy. So did hitting up the play area and penny candy store for the girls. I love making them happy like that. Also, I have a confession: I am more drawn to all those little girly clothes stores than I am to shopping for myself. I had to stop myself from going in…surely I’m not alone in that, right?

Last stop was Barnes and Nobles for me. I wanted to buy a protective clear cover screen for my Nook’s touchscreen, as some certain little people’s fingers have already done some serious damage. By this point, the girls were seriously breaking down, so I grabbed the first box I found and whirled towards the register.

Fortunately for me, a large man named Bernard stopped me.

“Yo, those things are free today. You might want to wait.”

Yo, indeed.

So I waited. Much to the chagrin of two overtired, over-sugared little girls, who proceeded to wail and writhe in the stroller/on my leg.

But…

Turns out, it was well worth the wait, because….drumroll, please…

I got the cover for free!!

Apparently the cleaning cloth that comes with the current protective cover damages the screen, so Barnes and Nobles is giving away the screens for free, providing you go in-store so the sales person can remove the damaging cleaning cloth.

Score!

The screens are normally $20, so my day was made by this discovery. My thanks to Bernard, and I just wanted to share, in case there are any Nook readers out there…I’d go check out your local B & N if you need a screen cover!
